Reset Your Body, Reset Your Mind
Apr 22, 2025
Sip of the Week: This week, I sat down with bodybuilding champion and health coach Angela to discuss the power of a body reset. Her incredible journey from German banker to Miss Universe bodybuilding champion (and how it scored her a green card!) taught her valuable lessons about sustainable fitness. Angela shares how our muscles are truly the "organs of longevity" - communicating with every system in our body, balancing hormones, improving metabolism, and strengthening bones. The most eye-opening insight? Women are not small men - we need different approaches to fitness and nutrition than what most mainstream programs (designed for men) offer. Angela's approach focuses on health first, with the aesthetic results naturally following, and emphasizes the power of small, consistent steps rather than overwhelming changes. Listen here!
Let It Brew: When we think about women's health, hormones, diet, and cardio often take center stage, but muscle tissue is actually the unsung hero of our overall wellbeing. Starting in our 30s, we begin losing muscle mass (sarcopenia) without noticing until decades later when the effects become pronounced—impacting everything from hormonal balance to bone density and metabolism. What makes this particularly important for women is that our bodies respond differently to training than men's; as Angela wisely notes, "Women are not small men," yet most standard fitness programs were developed based on research using male subjects. Building and maintaining muscle doesn't require extreme measures—small, consistent habits like prioritizing protein, incorporating strength training 2-3 times weekly, and creating sustainable routines yield remarkable improvements over time, where the goal isn't perfection but consistency, allowing ourselves grace when life happens while quickly returning to our healthy baseline.
Post-Tea Pursuits: NOTICE YOUR BODY'S SIGNALS this week.
On your own, take 10 minutes to check in with your physical self. Ask yourself:
- What automatic habits are serving my body well, and which ones might need a reset?
- Where am I trying to follow fitness advice that might be designed for me?
- What small, sustainable step could I take to engage my muscles more regularly?
Commit to one small physical reset practice this week. Maybe it's a 10-minute strength routine, preparing one healthy meal in advance, or simply getting to bed 30 minutes earlier. WRITE IT DOWN, and notice how it impacts your energy! Remember - small, consistent steps lead to lasting change. Let me know what you're trying—I'd love to cheer you on!
